Welcome to the world of Rapid Prototyping.

Perform an on-demand comparison of different RP technologies before making your next important project. Choose up to four of the listed technologies to see a more detailed comparison of their attributes and capabilities. FineLine does not offer part production in all of these technologies — we merely present them to you for the sake of comparison. Enjoy, and please contact us if you know of a technology that we should add to this list.

Stereolithography

Viper HR

FineLine’s signature offering. The dominant technology for accurate, richly-detailed small parts in a variety of materials.

  • Smooth surfaces
  • Very fine detail
Viper HR Sample

Viper NR

Not as crisp as the Viper HR, but allows for making larger parts at lower cost.

  • Smooth
  • Fine detail

iPro

The latest equipment in stereolithography, this machine does large parts at higher quality and resolution than ever before.

  • Smooth
  • Fine detail

SLA 5000

While similarly fast as the iPro, does not produce at nearly as high a quality due to its optical configuration.

  • Fast build

3D Printing

InVision HR

Multiple jets image in raster fashion to deposit UV-curable liquid. Can also be investment cast, so it is a great choice for jewelry or small medical devices.

  • Fine detail all over
  • Low strength

InVision SR

Uses multiple-jet imaging like the HR, but is a fast-building machine intended for quick concept models at lower resolution.

  • Medium detail
  • Low strength

ZCorp

Some ZCorp machines can make multi-colored parts by jetting colored binders. Not known for fine details, but can attain remarkable toughness with post-build infiltration.

  • Color capable
  • Rough finish

PolyJet

Primarily for concept modeling applications. Uses industry-leading thin layers for great Z-axis resolution, but lower in X and Y. Slightly rough surface finish.

  • Fast
  • Great Z-res
  • So-so XY res

Selective Laser Sintering

SinterStation Pro

Uses a laser to fuse layers of thermoplastic powder. Vector-based, so it can be quite accurate, and very strong, but has a rough surface and lacks fine details.

  • Engineering materials

Fused Deposition Modeling

Dimension Elite

Melts and extrudes a filament of thermoplastic through a tiny nozzle. Strong in 2 out of 3 axes (layer adhesion is inferior), but lacks resolution and accuracy of small features.

Perfactory

Mini

Uses digital light projection technology to image a liquid photopolymer. Capable of fine details, but number of parts per build suffers.

  • Very fine detail
  • Small build area
