Finish options that will help you achieve the appearance you need for your SL parts

The final step in our stereolithography process here at FineLine is the finishing of the parts. Finishing of the SL parts includes removal of the support structure used in the build process and a final UV post-cure to ensure that the parts achieve their best mechanical properties. Beyond that, there can be hand sanding for completely smooth surfaces, as well as painting, clearcoating or other techniques to help you achieve the appearance you need for your SL parts.

To select the finish level that will best meet your needs, see our finish level comparator.

Unfinished – notice the dots on the bottom of the part from the support structure remnants. They are standing "nibs".
Natural Finish – the supported surfaces are sanded down to eliminate the support "nibs".
Standard Matte Finish – the supported surfaces have been sanded, and the whole part is finely blasted for a consistent look. Note that the layers are still present.
Master Finish – the layers on the cosmetic surfaces have been sanded away and brought to a 400-grit blasted finish. These parts are ready to use as a tooling master.
Premium Finish – the part is polished all around and can be painted or clearcoated. All evidence of the SL process is removed.
